THE IMPACTS OF THE USE OF MATERIAL PORNOGRAPHIC MATERIAL ON HUMAN SEXUAL BEHAVIOR:

a literature review

Abstract

Introduction: Sexuality is considered a fundamental aspect in the development of human beings. Among the various topics that surround it, pornography is one of the most controversial. The pornographic industry presents performative sexual behavior that contributes to the propagation of a conception of the sexual act, portraying sexual performances that are inconsistent with reality. Objective: Identify how pornography can influence an individual’s experience of sexuality.  Materials and Methods: Qualitative bibliographic research carried out through scientific articles published between 2010 to 2020 on the Pubmed platform, based on the descriptor “pornography” in conjunction with the terms “sexual health”, “sexual dysfunction”, “sexuality” and “sexual behavior”. Results: Pornography may have implications for sexual health as it is correlated with male sexual dysfunctions. However, it also presents itself as a tool for learning new sexual techniques and actions. Men also present themselves as the group that accesses pornography earlier. Pornographic materials can influence body and performance standards, a lower propensity to use condoms, and transactional sexual relations; however, they do not encourage the desire to have unconventional sexual practices, in addition to not presenting themselves as a cause of sexual behavior aggressive male. Conclusion: It is noteworthy that pornography is diverse, which makes it difficult to classify, compromising the way of approaching the subject and finding a concrete position on the question of which dimensions pornography can affect, whether positively or negatively, showing that there is a range of variables that need to be taken into consideration.
